Compare the2025 Toyota Rav4 Plug-In HybridVS 2025 Porsche Macan Electric

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Toyota Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid achieved a “Acceptable” rating - the second highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Porsche Macan Electric has not been tested.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid XSE offers an optional Parking Support Brake that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid. But it costs extra on the Macan Electric.

Both the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid and the Macan Electric have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Toyota’s powertrain warranty covers the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the Macan Electric. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Macan Electric ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid for 1 year and 15000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Macan Electric (2/25000 vs. 1/10,000).

There are over 6 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Porsche vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota second in reliability, above the industry average. With 28 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked 6th.

On the EPA test cycle the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid running on electricity gets better mileage than the Macan Electric:

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 622 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The Macan Electric’s range is only 288 to 315 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 21 minutes for only an 80% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 11 hours and 30 minutes.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the Macan Electric are solid, not vented.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Macan Electric; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For better maneuverability, the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid SE’s turning circle is 3.6 feet tighter than the Macan Electric’s (36.1 feet vs. 39.7 feet). The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid XSE’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Macan Electric’s (37.4 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

The Toyota Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 750 to 1100 pounds less than the Porsche Macan Electric.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid is 7.4 inches shorter than the Macan Electric, making the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s rear seats recline. The Macan Electric’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Macan Electric with its rear seat up (33.5 vs. 22.1 cubic feet). The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Macan Electric with its rear seat folded (63.2 vs. 50.6 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid XSE’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a higher standard payload capacity than the Macan Electric (1295 vs. 1111 lbs.).

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a higher maximum payload capacity than the Macan Electric (1295 vs. 1190 lbs.).

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a standard rear wiper. A rear wiper costs extra on the Macan Electric.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has standard extendable sun visors. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer extendable visors.
